Rent & Drive is a marketplace that connects travellers (renters) with local vehicle owners (hosts) in Sri Lanka. These terms explain what the platform does, what you agree to as a renter or host, and where our responsibility ends. By using Rent & Drive you accept these terms.

1. What Rent & Drive is — and is not

Rent & Drive provides discovery, date-gated booking requests, messaging, availability management and handover records. It is not a rental company, broker, or party to the rental agreement.
No money flows through Rent & Drive. Rent, deposits and any other amounts are agreed and settled directly between the renter and the host (cash, bank transfer or otherwise). We never hold, escrow or process rental payments, and we charge no booking fees.
When a host accepts a request, a direct agreement is formed between the renter and the host. Rent & Drive records that agreement (dates, terms, messages, handover evidence) but does not guarantee either side’s performance.

2. Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and provide accurate information. Sign-in is by one-time email link or a connected Google account.
You are responsible for activity under your account. Do not share your sign-in links, and tell us if you believe your account was accessed without your permission.

3. Host responsibilities

You may only list vehicles you own or are authorised to rent out. You must keep your vehicle roadworthy, registered, taxed and insured for the rental period, and comply with Sri Lankan law.
Complete identity verification (KYC) before listing: profile photo, phone, WhatsApp and NIC. Listings must be accurate — photos, rates, fuel policy, daily kilometre limit, deposit and driver terms (BR-11) must reflect what the renter will actually experience.
Honour accepted bookings. If you cannot, cancel as early as possible so the dates are released; repeated failures can lead to account suspension.

4. Renter responsibilities

Hold a valid driving licence. Foreign licence holders must also obtain the temporary Sri Lankan endorsement (AAC/DMT) required by law before driving; listings noting “permit assistance” mean the host can help arrange this, not that it is optional.
Inspect the vehicle together with the host at handover, record the condition (photos or video), note fuel level, odometer and deposit, and return the vehicle on time and in the agreed condition.
Settle the agreed rent and deposit directly with the host, and comply with the rental terms shown on the listing.

5. Handover records and evidence

Renters and hosts may capture photos and short videos of the vehicle at pickup and return, together with fuel, odometer and deposit notes. These records are intended to protect both parties in the event of a dispute; they are append-only and visible only to the two parties (and our moderation team when needed). By using the handover feature you consent to this evidence being stored for the life of the platform.

6. Reviews

Only the renter may review a rental, only after it is marked completed, and only once per booking. Reviews are permanent. Submit honest reviews; we may remove content that is unlawful, abusive, or demonstrably false, but we do not edit ratings.

7. Acceptable use

No fraud, impersonation, fake listings or fake reviews; no use of the platform for illegal activity; no harassment of other users.
Do not attempt to break, overload or bypass the platform’s security or rate limits.

8. Suspension and termination

We may pause or remove listings, and suspend or ban accounts, for violations of these terms or risks to other users — always with a recorded reason, and with an audit trail on our side. You can stop using the platform at any time.

9. Disclaimers and liability

Rent & Drive is provided “as is”. We do not inspect vehicles in person; verification attests to the host’s identity, not the condition of any vehicle.
Insurance, damage and loss are matters between the renter, the host and their insurers. Rent & Drive is not an insurer and does not provide coverage.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rent & Drive is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from rentals arranged through the platform. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under mandatory Sri Lankan law.
